For many years I have pursued different textile techniques. My artwork presently features mainly felt and both hand and machine embroidery. The beautiful landscape of Cumbria provides a wealth of source material, together with it’s flora and fauna.

Inspiration for my unique Brusho and silk fabric work comes from the colours and forms found in the local scenery. I have a special love for trees and the light that plays through them, their knobbly trunks, twisted roots and the distant vistas to be glimpsed through them. I also create lino prints on textile which are enhanced using Brusho dye.

After 30 years as a Fire-fighter, Alan is now a Coastguard serving in Arnside specialising in pencil and ink drawings on maps; the older the better, as a used map tells a story, adding to the narrative of the picture.
