An expansive lake and its surroundings in Central Finland provide me with inspiration for many of my paintings. The sense of isolation in this area of unspoilt nature is important to me. I use oil paint to express this atmosphere.

Helen Ritchie – Sherwood Pottery
If I had my time again I would have been a potter! Having taken up pottery later in life, I have enjoyed developing skills and ideas. I have my own studio in Storth where I throw and hand build my pieces. I definitely don’t have “a style” per se. If I have an idea I work with it until I am happy so you will find I have an eclectic collection of mainly pots and bowls.

My current crafts include mixed media (Powertex), things made from maps, and cards with an outdoor pursuits theme. Inspired through a combination of many sources, many of the items I produce are one-offs and are truly unique.

Gilli Slater
Inspiration for my unique Brusho and silk fabric work comes from the colours and forms found in the local scenery. I have a special love for trees and the light that plays through them, their knobbly trunks, twisted roots and the distant vistas to be glimpsed through them. I also create lino prints on textile which are enhanced using Brusho dye. The effects caused by the vibrant colours migrating through the silk fabric never cease to amaze me.

Emma Field
Working in oil, watercolour and acrylic, Emma creates atmospheric paintings of landscapes around Lancaster and the coastline of Morecambe Bay, Arnside, Silverdale, Bowland and beyond. Through expressive mark-making, intricate detail and rich, layered colour, she captures shifting light, reflections and dramatic skies, evoking a strong sense of place, rooted in memory and resonating with others’ own experiences in nature.
Elizabeth Donaldson – Rusty Cards
Elizabeth Donaldson is a self-taught digital artist based in Arnside in the South Lakes. After ten years of owning a local gift shop, she began designing her own greeting cards, an experience which lead to creating digital artwork prints of the local area and also pet commissions and logos. Most recently she has worked on a design to celebrate to return of the clock at Carnforth Station, made famous by the 1945 film Brief Encounter and is currently working on a print inspired by White Creek at New Barns.
Arnside Pottery Group
The pieces are handmade by different individuals who attend Nik’s pottery class. They are porcelain pieces. This class is held on a Tuesday afternoon at Arnside EI.

I am not a formally trained artist and I am sure I break many rules. Painting gives me great pleasure and if it gives other people pleasure looking at it, then I have achieved my goal.
