Chris Boydell – Festival of Pattern

In my previous life as a lecturer in design history, specifically fashion and textiles, I had amassed a large collection of vintage fabrics that I used in my teaching. When I left the profession in 2015 I began to sell my collection. I also began using the scraps and off-cuts that were too small to sell to make hand-made coasters and key rings. These products express my passion for pattern, designers and manufacturers of the 1950s and 1960s. Coasters are made using glass or acrylic casings and are available as singles or sets of four. Vintage printed fabric often has lovely repeating patterns, but individual coasters vary to produce unique sets. I also re-use old French linen sheets, that I dye and combine with vintage fabric to make aprons and tote bags.
